How Does Glass Fiber Wear a Mold Cavity — and Which Steel Survives It?
Glass fiber in engineering resins acts like sandpaper on mold cavity surfaces. Every shot drags thousands of microscopic glass fibers across the steel at injection speed, and over hundreds of thousands of cycles that abrasion removes material from the cavity walls, the gate area, and the parting-line seal — slowly at first, then fast enough to push critical dimensions outside tolerance.
Warpage — Part deformation after ejection caused by uneven shrinkage. Amorphous resins warp less (0.4–0.7% shrinkage). Semi-crystalline resins warp more (1.0–2.5% shrinkage). Fix: uniform wall thickness, balanced cooling, optimized gate location, adequate packing pressure. See also related guide.
