What Is Steel-Safe Design — and How Does It Cut Revision Cost?
Steel-safe design leaves extra metal at the mold features most likely to need correction, because cutting steel away at a revision is routine machining while adding it back is welding — with all the hardness loss, distortion and schedule risk that welding brings. The method converts a class of expensive post-trial corrections into quick, local removals: the first article shows the gap, the mill takes the stock, the re-trial proves it.
It is one of the few design decisions that makes the mold more forgiving after the steel is already cut.
