How Do You Verify a Mold Maker’s Capability Before Paying the Deposit?
Verifying a mold maker’s capability before the deposit is a structured due-diligence process — not a single document or a website review. The verification covers five areas: technical capability (does the shop have the equipment and expertise to build your mold?), quality documentation (does the shop produce verifiable inspection reports?), communication process (does the shop respond to technical questions with specific, verifiable answers?), financial stability (will the shop still be in business when your mold is ready?), and references (has the shop delivered similar molds to similar customers?).
The deposit is the point of no financial return — verification before the deposit is the only leverage the customer has.
Shrinkage — The dimensional reduction from mold cavity to cooled part. Amorphous resins: 0.4–0.7% (uniform). Semi-crystalline: 1.0–2.5% (directional). Mold makers apply shrinkage factor when machining cavity. Actual shrinkage varies with wall thickness, gate location and packing pressure. See also related guide.
