How Does Mold Texture Depth Affect Draft Angle — and What Happens When You Ignore the Rule?
Every 0.025 mm of texture depth requires approximately 1° of additional draft angle beyond the minimum for a smooth surface. A VDI 3400 reference 27 texture (approximately 0.10 mm depth) needs 4–5° of draft on the textured wall; a reference 33 (approximately 0.20 mm depth) needs 6–8°. Ignore the ratio and the texture tears during ejection, leaving drag marks that make the part look worse than a smooth surface at the same draft angle.
Parting line — The line where the two mold halves (A-side and B-side) meet. Parting line location affects: gate placement, ejector pin marks, witness lines, and cosmetic appearance. A well-designed parting line minimizes visible witness marks. See also related guide.
