How Should a Mold Be Stored Between Production Runs — and What Goes Wrong?
A mold stored without proper cleaning, drying, and corrosion protection degrades faster than a mold in active production. Resin residue on the cavity surface, moisture trapped in the cooling channels, and acid condensation from flame-retardant grades continue to corrode the steel during storage — often producing more damage than the production run itself. The correct storage procedure takes 20–30 minutes after the last shot and prevents thousands of dollars in cavity refurbishment at the next start-up.
