How Do You Design Molded Threads — and When Is an Insert the Better Call?
A molded thread works when the thread form, the formation method, and the resin’s flexibility agree: use a rounded thread profile, add runout relief at both ends, and pick the formation method — split cavity, jump thread, unscrewing, or collapsible core — from the thread depth and the resin, not from habit. When the thread must survive hundreds of assembly cycles, carry high torque, or resist creep, a molded-in metal insert beats any plastic thread.
Process parameter — A controllable variable in the injection molding process: melt temperature, injection speed, holding pressure, cooling time, mold temperature. Each parameter affects part quality — deviations cause defects. Parameters are set during T1 and locked for production. See also related guide.
