How Do You Size a Mold Temperature Controller — and What Does Undersizing Cost?
A mold temperature controller is sized by the heat the mold actually removes per hour — from shot weight, resin thermal properties, cycle time and the coolant temperature difference — with a margin for losses, then matched by heater power, pump flow and pressure against the mold’s own circuit restrictions. Undersizing never announces itself at startup: the controller reads its setpoint on the first shot, and the shortfall appears instead as cycle creep, drift across shifts, and a process window that narrows as the day warms up.
Flash — Thin excess material that escapes between the mold parting line or around ejector pins. Cause: insufficient clamp force, worn parting line, excessive injection pressure, or contaminated mold surface. Flash thickness: 0.02–0.1mm. Requires secondary trimming to remove. See also related guide.
